Little Lambs finds a home at First Presbyterian Church. Little Lambs was founded in 1995 by the Junior League of Evansville in response to the high infant mortality rate in Evansville and Vanderburgh County. The goals were simple:
1. Increase usage of prenatal and well-baby care.
2. Develop healthy parenting techniques.
3. Provide safe baby equipment and supplies to those who need them.
In 1998, First Presbyterian Church partnered with the Junior League. In 1999, the Little Lambs “store” moved into space at First Presbyterian Church. and First Presbyterian Church began taking more responsibility for the operations of the Little Lambs program.
In 2005, the church sought greater assistance from the community in the management of Little Lambs. The local Step Ahead Council was approached and soon Little Lambs became a committee of the Vanderburgh Step Ahead Council. The church continues to provide space and financial support for Little Lambs, but in 2008 Little Lambs achieved 501(c)3 status as an independent not-for-profit charitable organization.
