Children

First Friends

First Friends is an after-school ministry of First Presbyterian Church, designed for children in Kindergarten and First Grade.  At First Friends, we bring children together in a safe environment, where we establish the foundations for lasting friendships. 

Meeting on Tuesdays from 3:30-5:00 p.m., First Friends make music, share a snack, and discover how to grow in love for God and neighbor. Each week is a time of celebration and there are usually a few surprises along the way!

Significant relationships with others - outside the family circle - are among the most profound influences on the spiritual development of a child.  Connecting with other children and adults creates a safe environment where faith can be explored and questions asked in an atmosphere of understanding and acceptance.

First Kids

First Kids is an after-school ministry of First Presbyterian Church, designed for children and young people in grades 2-8.  At First Kids, we learn to live together in community, discover what it means to be God’s friends, and grow in our understanding and love for God and neighbor.

Meeting on Thursdays from 3:30-6:15 p.m., we study, make music, and share our evening meal.  Each week is a time of celebration and there are usually a few surprises along the way!

At First Kids, we try to practice “learn by doing.”  Throughout the year, there will be opportunities for all of our kids to take part in putting “faith into action,” through service projects, works days, and special “learn by doing” activities.  We will provide plenty of notice and we hope that everyone will take part!

Each week, our First Kids will break into two groups to study and discover what God wants us to know and how God wants us to live.,  As a congregation engaged in expressing faith in action, we will offer our First Kids opporunities to share what they learn through acts of kindness and service.  We understand the heart of the gospel message to be: love God...love neighbor.   That’s what we teach at First Kids.

Part of what makes First Kids so much fun is spending time together making music.  Each participant in First Kids will have the opportunity to play our English Handbells and Choir Chimes as well as singing together in our choir.
