Infants and Toddlers
First Presbyterian Church is a welcoming community and children are a gift to us! We have a private lounge for nursing mothers and childcare available on Sundays for toddlers and PreK children. All of our children are invited to join the pastor for the children's moment during worship.
Our childcare workers comply with church safety policies. All of our children and youth volunteers are required to take the "Stewards of Children" education course through the Lampion Center of Evansville.
Childcare is available for all worship services and Sunday school at First Presbyterian Church. We welcome all PreK kids to join their families in worship and to join the pastor for the children's moment.
On Thursdays, a PreK class is offered at the Presbyterian Youth Explosion after-school program from 4:30-5:15.
Kindergarten and First Grade
Children in Kindergarten and First Grade join the congregation in worship and the pastor for the children's moment. Children in Kindergarten and First Grade are also invited to experience Journeys in Worship, a worship education curriculum created to teach children about why we do the things we do in worship. The children who want to participate will exit the Sanctuary after the children's moment with the Journeys teacher. The children will return to the Sanctuary during the last hymn.
Kindergarten and First Grade are invited to join the Presbyterian Youth Explosion class on Thursdays from 3:30-5:15 p.m. The children learn songs that they will sing in worship once a month. We call this beginner choir the Tower Choir.
Many of our Second-Sixth Grade children participate in The Choir School Program. If you look up in the balcony on a Sunday morning during the school year, you will see them! For those children who do not participate in The Choir School we offer opportunities to serve as an acolyte and in the Handbell Choir. Our Thursday afterschool Presbyterian Youth Explosion program offers classes for Second-Sixth Grades from 3:30-5:15 p.m.

PYE Children and Youth Mission Statement
In this community of Presbyterian Youth Explosion, we welcome EVERYONE offering acceptance and belonging. We CELEBRATE our differences as we question, discover and grow in faith, hope and love.
At PYE, we bring children together in a safe environment. Significant relationships with others - outside the family circle - are among the most profound influences on the spiritual development of a child and PYE offers this opportunity. Connection with other children and adults creates a safe environment where faith can be explored and questions asked in an atmosphere of understanding and acceptance.
The PYE program teaches children through music, stories and serving others.
Meeting on Thursdays from 3:45-5:10 p.m., this age group makes music, shares snacks and discovers how to grow in love for God and neighbor. Each week is a time of celebration and there are usually a few surprises along the way!
Meeting on Thursdays from 3:45 - 6:30 p.m., we study, make music, and share our evening meal. Each week is a time of celebration and there are usually a few surprises along the way!
At PYE, we try to practice “learn by doing.” Throughout the year, there will be opportunities for all of our kids to take part in putting “faith into action,” through service projects, works days, and special “learn by doing” activities. We understand the heart of the gospel message to be: love God...love neighbor. That’s what we teach at PYE.
Part of what makes PYE so much fun is spending time together making music. Each participant in PYE will have the opportunity to play our English Handbells and Choir Chimes as well as singing together in our choir.
Our 2016-2017 PYE programming begins on September 1. Please register by August 18.
